The Third Issue of Negah-e Aftab Quarterly is Now Available

The third issue of Negah-e Aftab quarterly for the spring of 2021 is published. In this issue of Negah-e Aftab, you can read the interview with Towfiq Hashempour Sobhani, translator, editor and Rumi researcher, in which he talks about the impact of his meeting with Abdülbaki Gölpınarlı.

In this issue we read:

  • In the “Wisdom” section, the topic of loneliness as a major human concern in relation to Rumi’s teachings is explored from the viewpoint of Mohammad Saeed Hanaei Kashani, Mahmoud Mogaddasi, Soudabeh Karimi, Mohieddin Ghanbari, Homayoun Hemmati, Mehrab Seddighnia, Saba Fadavi and Hasan Ashayeri.
  • The “Performance” section is dedicated to Abdolhossein Zarrinkoub, an unrivaled literary, historical and mystical researcher and his activities and works. In this section, an article is published for the first time of his lecture at the University of California in 1996, in which he reviews the enigmatic encounter between Shams and Rumi. Furthermore, in this section Mehdi Mohaghegh, Sirus Shamisa, Fathollah Mojtabaie, Maryam Mosharraf, Rouzbeh Zarrinkoub, Enayatollah Majidi, Ebrahim Mousapour Besheli, Ali Bahramian, Seyed Sadegh Sajjadi and Kamyar Abedi express their ideas regarding the Abdolhossein Zarrinkoub’s performance and his influence on Rumi researches.
  • In “Research” section, Rahman Moshtagh Mehr, Mahmoud Reza Esfandiar, Seyed Majid Sadatkiaie, Mehdi Kompani Zare and Mahboubeh Mobasheri attempt to answer the question: “Why should we read Masnavi? And what are the most important lessons of Masnavi?”
  • In the “Arts” section, the various aspects of rewriting Rumi’s Fables for children is discussed in a round table attended by Mustafa Rahmandoust, Marjan Fouladvand and Maryam Jalali and also, the author, Mohammad Reza Yousefi talks about the feathers of a good writing or adaptation of Rumi for children.
  • In the “Critique” section we read:
    • “The world of Rumi and Rumi of the world” on the concept of Rumi’s mystical heritage in Ehsan Ebrahimi’s interview with Hossein Kamali
    • “The analysis of critical currents of the legacy of mysticism and the explorations of the proximity between mysticism, jurisprudence and philosophy” in Seyed Hedayat Jalali’s interview with Mohammad Fanaie Eshkevari

Furthermore, this section includes notes form Akbar Sobout, Pari Iranmanesh, Mohsen Zandi and Azizullah Hasanzadeh.

  • The “Neighbor” section contains a review of Rumi’s presence in the social and academic environment of Bosnia. This section also includes notes written by Mubina Moker, Sedad Dizdarević, Rešid Hafizović, Elvir Musić, Saeed Abedpour as well as an interview with Mehmed karahodžić.
  • In the “Lived Experiences” section, Seyed Mohammad Beheshti, Ahmad Masjed-Jamei, Ali Asghar Seyed Abadi and Mostafa Badkoubeh narrate their personal encounters with the lifeworld of Rumi.
  • “Silence of God and Human Apprehension” by Shabbir Akhtar and ‘The possibility of relieving boredom from the modern world with the help of Rumi’s ancient thoughts are the articles of this issue of Negah-e Aftab quarterly.
  • The “Shelf” section includes interviews with Mehdi Salari Nasab about the book “In Knowing Masnavi” and with Amir Hossein Allahyari about the book “Little Death”. Alireza Rezayat introduces in details the book “Beyond Dogma: Rumi’s Teachings of Friendship with God and Early Sufi Theories”. Davoud Vafaie introduces a Turkish book entitled “Sufisim in the Balkans” and Manouchehr Dinparast reviews “The Book of Fire” and Rumi’s influences on Abbas Kiarostami, the late Iranian filmmaker.
  • In the “Account” section, an overview of the most important news and events in Rumi studies is published.
  • As usual for each issue of the quarterly, the translation of the summary is provided in three languages of English, Turkish and Arabic at the end of the quarterly in the “Translation” section.
